Teacup Candle Common Questions

Teacup Safety

A candle in a teacup is safe as the flame does not directly touch the china. Ensure some wax is left in the bottom of the cup as your candle finishes to prevent the flame from getting too close to the base of the cup, which could cause the china to overheat and crack.

Wood Wicks

Before each burn, the wood wick should be trimmed to about 1/8 inch above the wax, cut parallel to the wax, and any charred bits removed. Lighting your wood wick may require the lighter to be held to the wick for a few moments, until some wax at the base of the wick melts and can be absorbed to fuel the burn.

Burning

Burn your candle each time until the wax pool reaches the edges of the teacup to prevent it from tunneling on following burns. Keeping your candle lit for 1-4 hours is recommended to ensure the wax pool has enough time to reach the edges while not burning too long and hot, which can also cause tunneling.

Scent

AlfalfaPastures' natural candles are scented with essential oils so they burn clean, avoiding side effects like headaches that are often caused by artificial fragrances. Therefore, they do have a lighter scent, so if you enjoy room-filling, powerful fragrance, they may not be for you.

Hidden Message Candles

In a hidden message candle, after the candle has been burned down to reveal the message, the wax below the beads will begin to melt. At this stage, it is normal for the letters to shift around in the wax.

Reusing Your Teacup

When your candle is finished, scrape out as much of the wax as possible. Then, fill the cup with boiling water and soak. This will cause the remaining wax to float to the top, and once cool, the layer of wax can easily be removed. Wash your teacup with soap and warm water and reuse as you wish!
